Hi there and welcome to my website! My name is Attila Popping, I am a radio astronomer and astrophysicist at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) at the University of Western Australia (UWA).
My work mostly focuses galaxy evolution and the distribution of neutral hydrogen gas (HI) in the Universe. I am involved in several large international projects, including projects on the Australia SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) and the Jansky Very Large Array. Furthermore I have great interest in the development of future radio observing facilities, most significantly the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). I am principle investigator on the ATCA Legacy Project “IMAGINE“, which is an acronym for “Imaging Galaxies Inter-galactic and Nearby Environment”.
Radio astronomy is moving into a new era of data science. Apart from the great science that can be done with all new telescopes, I am interested in exploring new methods and algorithms to process very large data volumes. On this website you can find a description of the research I am involved in. Please feel free to contact me by sending an email or using the contact form on this page.
